1 Examine how attitudes towards linguistic standards empower and oppress language users. Explore how views on language standards can affect speakers positively and negatively.

I learned how varying perspectives of language norms impact individuals that speak multiple languages/have different dialects. I learned this from Amy Tan’s “Mother Tongue”  and Langston Hughes’ poem. My synthesis essay also discussed this topic in depth. 
2 Explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. A plethora of differing reading and writing styles and rhetorical scenarios are observed and examined.

I learned that the way authors write varies depending on the context, subject, target audience, and other factors. I got this from Lyiscott’s spoken word and Langston Hughes’ poem.
3 Develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing. Form methods to review, edit, work together, and make preliminary versions or outlines.

While doing peer reviews for the LLN I learned a lot about collaboration and using feedback to revise/edit the last version I submitted. The peer review helped me finalize my LLN
4 Recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations. Be able to identify and incorporate rhetorical tools in your writing.

I learned that incorporating symbolism, sensory details, and specific context engages readers. I got this from peer review feedback on my LLN and from Saleem’s speech.
5 Understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audiences. Using technology and media to best express a theme to a particular audience.

Multimodality really expanded my horizons in terms of appealing to a specific audience. For my Translation 1 assignment, I used a combination of memes and images to make my story entertaining and easier to follow for viewers.
6 Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias. Find relevant academic sources from library databases, which have many reliable, peer-reviewed sources.

I learned how to acquire credible, relevant sources from databases from the process of writing my synthesis essay. The scholarly sources I used are studies or journals from JSTOR, Google Scholar, EBSCO, and Academic OneFile.
7 Compose texts that integrate a stance with appropriate sources, using strategies such as summary, analysis, synthesis, and argumentation. Create writing pieces that have a clear position through analysis of credible sources to support it.

I analyzed and synthesized multiple sources from differing domains for my synthesis essay  to defend and refute my thesis statement. 
8 Practice systematic application of citation conventions. Consistently apply citation standards accordingly and regularly.

I had some trouble with the formatting of in-text citations but after that “in-text citation” handout and feedback from my instructor, I was able to make accurate in-text citations for my synthesis essay
